November - December 2003 Last time I built a car I did it with extension leads draped all over the place, and small spot lamps providing me with only just enough light to insert part A into part B. This was not a fun way to build a car! So this time no 1 priority was sufficient light. No damn it sufficient is simply not enough. I want to be wearing sunglasses! So I've spent much of November installing 18x 58w 5ft fluorescent tubes and a new lighting circuit into my garage. While I was at it I also installed some fluorescents into the loft space above the garage as I fully intend to use the space above the ceiling as storage. The difference is amazing, I think you could do brain surgery on my garage floor now....although it's nowhere near as clean an tidy as my friend Dave Hackett's garage at www.megabird.co.uk The garage has also had a comprehensive tidy, and much of the useless junk has been dumped or transferred into the loft space, now for the first time since the day I moved in I can actually fit two cars into my two car garage :-). Tonight I spent a couple of rather unpleasant hours in the garage installing a tow bar on my Peugeot 406 I did manage to finish the physical install of the towing bracket, leaving just the electrical wiring to finish of on Friday. I backed the car into the garage and then spent the next two hours with my head in close proximity to the exhaust. After a couple of hours breathing exhaust gas residues I was feeling decidedly giddy, I got up, nearly fell over and staggered into the house and promptly threw up. Hmmm not nice but job done! Oooh I'm excited now, I'll be collecting the chassis in 24 hours. I've booked today off work to get the final preparations completed before I collect the chassis tomorrow. I've borrowed some 16" wheels from Clem in order to roll the chassis on and off the trailer so basically the order of the day is to fit electrics for the tow bar, and complete final garage cleanup ready for the cars arrival. The Peugeot 406 tow bar electrics kit is quite complex, but fairly straight forward if a bit fiddly to fit. So I get this sorted out by lunchtime. The rest of the day is taken up with Garage junk shifting but by 6pm I'm ready for collection day. One fly in the ointment is the while nipping over to Halfords the brake pad depth warning light illuminates on the Peugeot tow barge. Hmmm trailering the racer home with dodgy brakes is NOT an option, so I'll be sitting on Mr Peugeot dealer's doorstep first thing in the morning hoping to get some new pads fitted. :-( Christmas comes early .... and today I'm off to fetch the chassis :-)
