I had every intention of maintaining a build diary when I built my blue road going Genesis but the spanner wielding required to build the car burnt all my available time so I never got around to authoring it. This time however, it's going to be different. No really it IS :-) and the progress will be recorded here.
As the car is now drivable I've stopped updating the build diary, I''ve added a driving diary instead it is here Current Progress so far (latest at top) August 11th-17th - The build is finished, a flurry of long nights and panic fettling mean that the car is now "ready" for it's first test session at Mallory Park. This is the end of the build diary. A Driving Diary has been added. August 10th 2004 - Frustration and woe! some days things just don't go right August 9th 2004 CV joint boot replaced and clutch finalised August 6th,7th & 8th 2004 - Lot and lots of small jobs done, gear indicator fitted, the car is electrically complete, new drive chain & sprocket fitted. Plus a lot of general tidying and finishing off August 4th 2004 - Who Hooo again! Now she's drivable! August 2nd 2004 - Whoo hoo! working brakes at last! August 1st 2004 - Comedy foam seat making, & swirl pot repairs July 31st 2004 - Chassis panelling in preparation for the foam seat + fitting the front brakes. 28th July 2004 - Lots of little but time consuming engine bay jobs done this evening. 26th July 2004 - a Big update detailing the last week's work. clutch, brakes and electrical 20th July 2004 - More work on the anchors! This time it's the back brakes 17th July 2004 - The braking system is coming together! 13th July 2004 - Finishing off wiring bits and bobs + work starts on brake pedals and extinguisher. 11th July 2004 - Work on mounting the gear indicator in the "heads up display" :-) 10th July 2004 - More wiring, this is really getting rather tedious. 8th July 2004 - now that the engine goes, work starts on making the thing stop! 7th July 2004 - Engine management loom in NS side pod is completed. 4th July 2004 - Work begins finishing off the engine management and dash wiring looms. 27th June 2004 - It Lives! the engine is finally running and I've got good oil pressure too! Click here for the start up video 22nd June 2004 - Fuel system plumbing is completed. 20th June 2004 - Fuel system installation begins. 19th June 2004 - Main fuel tank fabrication completed, coolant system is nearing completion 17th June 2004 - Surge tank is completed 15th June 2004 - The Surge tank\swirl pot approaches completion. 13th June 2004 - More fuel based progress but the engines not quite running yet :-( 8th June 2004 - Fuel tank and swirl pot fabrication begins 7th June 2004 - I've got oil pressure! Who Hoo :-) 5th June 2004 Work on the coolant system and water pump approaches completion. Also the throttle bodies are fitted. 3rd June 2004 - Not much time today but the engine bay cooling pipes have been started. 30th May 2004 - Drysump\oil system is finally completed. 29th May 2004 - More wiring .... this is very dull but a big step was made when it was powered up. 24th May 2004 - More work on the front callipers the offset is now correct but I've some new problems. 23rd May 2004 - Not much done today.... but I have started work on brackets for the front callipers. 22nd May 2004 - The Push\pull gearshift is finished and is the first system on the car to reach completion. 19th May -2004 - Building an electronic gear indicator display for less than £10 18th May 2004 - Work starts on the gearshift using a Push\Pull cable 17th May 2004 - Trial fitting of rear callipers, now that the mounts and disks have been machined to fit. 15th May 2004 - Exhaust fitting, ECU and Digidash sensor wiring. 13th May 2004 - Throttle body preparation & cleaning. 12th May 2004 - Whoo Hooo! my Callipers have arrived, but they don't fit :-(. 10th May 2004 - Attempted to setup gear linkage, failed dismally. 8th May 2004 - Dry sump hosing partially completed, along with oil sensor remote mounting 1st May 2004 - Engine fitting moves towards completion, plus the dry sump problem is fixed and the car can now move under it's own steam. But only backwards! 24th April 2004 - The engine is fitted, although clearance problems force a rethink of both oil cooling and gear linkage. 17th April 2004 - Exhaustive details of fitting the Pace Dry Sump System to the engine 10th April 2004 - NS Front upright swapped 7th April 2004 - Whoo Hoo after a much longer wait than anticipated my drysump has arrived :-), a thing of beauty it is too! 4th April 2004 - FIA master switch, solenoid, battery and main loom fuses, in other words "electrickery" 3rd April 2004 - Front uprights swapped, coolant pipes fitted (To Do list added to site) 31st March 2004 - The Blue beastie is away for some paintjob work, and the BIG TIDY begins. 21st March 2004 - Race report of the first RGB race of the season and a Genesis Wins :-) 20th March 2004 - Not much time today.... but some coolant tube fabricated 19th March 2004 - More supplier troubles 13th March 2004 - Handbrake fitted and working, speedo sensor brackets sorted and work starts on the coolant pipe runs 12th March 2004 - New front uprights arrive from Tim Pell 11th March 2004 - Handbrake finally fitted and it doesn't foul the drive chain 10th March 2004 - The handbrake problem looks like it's solved and one system on the car is nearing completion, Another week passes and I'm still waiting for brakes 7th March 2004 - The diff and carrier are all back in the car, and the handbrake mechanism is trial fitted but it fouls the drive chain 3rd March 2004 - March Build diary page 1 added, news on the "Crack of Doom, the dash is nearing completion and has finally made it onto the car, still no callipers from Hi-Spec or Dry Sump kit from Pace but these are imminent! 28th February 2004 - Nice new OZ Super Leggaras and A048rs mean that the car now sits on it's own rubber. Also I've discovered a rather horrendous crack in the front NS upright :-( 21st February 2004 - Exhaust clamps, Wheels and tyres ordered and diff carrier, removal and cleaning 16th February2004 - Details of new dash fabrication & Digidash installation. Plus conversion of the old fuel tank and cleaning, cleaning cleaning 25th January 2004 - Old wiring loom, body work and coolant pipes removed. 20th January 2004 - Engine trial fitted to car. 6th January 2004 - ZX12R Engine arrives. 1st January 2004 - Begin inspection & disassembly. 20th December 2003 - Chassis collection.
